Mr. Spaceman

The following is an excerpt from “This Day In History:”

On this day in 1997, U.S. Air Force officials release a 231-page report dismissing long-standing claims of an alien spacecraft crash in Roswell, New Mexico, almost exactly 50 years earlier. (click here for entire story.)

When Buzzy was in the Air Force, he, my Mom and I lived in Roswell, New Mexico where my brother Steve was born in 1952. When I asked Buzzy if he had ever heard any scuttlebutt about an alien spaceship crash there he said that they were told that nuclear bomb tests were being done at the time and that the weather balloon story was a cover up. He said they were asked/instructed to perpetuate the weather balloon story because Air Force officials didn’t want the Russians to know that what they were really doing was experimenting with balloons to monitor Russian testing of atomic bombs and ballistic missiles. Hard to tell if this was the cover up of the cover up re: the aliens crashing, but there are a number of websites and UFOlogists that claim otherwise.  To check some of these discussions out
click here or google anything having to do with Area 51.

In 2001 Buzzy and I visited Lou Gentry in El Paso, Texas and took a day trip to Roswell.  The Air Force Base that was there was closed in the 60’s and is now their Airport/Aviation Center.  The town itself is not very big and is very laid back.  As for possible “alien” sightings, the only thing we saw were some Hispanic dudes hanging out in the Winn Dixie parking lot looking for work.
