Going Postal at Buzzy’s

Yesterday’s post about zip codes made me think about some rumors circulating regarding the Scotland Post Office.  Years ago when my Grandfather Harry Raley owned the Store the Post Office was located in it.  My Grandmother Anna was the Post Master in 1945. However, when Ms. Queenie Willis subsequently became the Post Master, she had the Post Office moved down to her property where it is today.

Three years ago when I first bought the Store from my Dad, I called John Bohanan to ask about the process to try and have the Post Office relocated from its current location back to the Store.  John advised me that the USPS had just lost $30 billion the previous year and that he was concerned that making a proposal to move the Scotland Post Office might bring it up on the radar as one they could possibly close altogether. Based on that logic, I did not pursue it any further.

However, with the recent rumor mill churning about possible closure and lease-related issues at the current site, I’ve again tried (unsuccessfully) to contact USPS officials about moving the Scotland Post Office back to Buzzy’s Country Store. John Bohanan is looking into it too.

I did find a list click here of 700 Post Offices scheduled to be studied for possible closure and the good news is that Scotland is not on the list. However, appears that there are some significant changes coming from the USPS as discussed in the following radio discussion click here.

Will keep you “posted.”

Move Post Office Operations to Buzzy’s? Yes.
Physically Relocate the Old Post Office Building to Buzzy’s? Uh, No.
