I took some empty beer cans to Guy Distributing in Leonardtown the other day for their recycle bin. While waiting for them to crunch the cans, I strolled around the back corner of the building and checked out the old Pennies Ball Field. Sorry I did so. What was once a nice baseball field is now an overgrown mess. The partially open gate shown here was located in left center field and it brought some memories of my hitting a double to that area once to drive home a couple runs back in my softball heyday. (It also brought back the memory of Jimmy Robrecht making a diving catch in this area and then throwing back to second to double me off as I was rounding third and heading for home.) All of which just goes to prove the old saying – you can’t go home. Re: the World Series starting tonite, I like the Cardinals to win it all which means the Rangers probably will.
