Captain Ed Pratt

All liquor licensees must renew their license every March.  It is also a requirement that the current license,  along with other State and County documents, be posted on display somewhere in the place of business.  Buzzy used to have these documents posted under a glassed picture frame (above) that he had hanging next to the front door of the Store.  I’ve since relocated it to a shelf behind the counter.

If you look closely at the center/right side of the glass, you’ll see a crack running thru it that Buzzy had repaired in typical efficient Buzzy-style by taping over it.   When I asked him what happened to it, he explained that Captain Ed Pratt stormed out of the Store angry one night and on his way out the front door threw a 7 ounce bottle of Bud at the frame and broke it.   Buzzy could not recall what it was that  Ed was so angry about.

Couple times I’ve thought to replace the glass frame but every time I do so, I think of its connection with and to Capt. Ed and can’t pull the trigger.  Broken glass and all, it  remains  a fixture in Buzzy’s Country Store just as Captain Ed was for a number of years.  He’s shown here in his customary spot in front of the beer case and sipping a 7 ouncer similar to the one he tossed at the picture frame.  Thanks for the memories, Capt. Ed.
