Re: my post the other day about the store owner in Hawaii asking me, after I’d informed her I too owned a little country store, “So who’s watching it,” it reminded me of the following joke I’d heard several years ago about a dying Jewish merchant. (I know that this perpetuates a stereotype, but please note that I found the following in The Jewish Magazine (click here.)
The Last Dying Breath
Yakov was on his death bed, breathing his last. His family had gathered around him. Through half-closed eyes and a barely audible voice he asked,
“Mama — you here?”
“Yes, Papa.”
“Sammy — you here?”
“Yes, Papa.”
“Isadore — you here?”
“Yes, Papa.”
“Rosalie — you here?”
“Yes, Papa.”
“Rachel — you here?”
“Yes, Papa.”
With his face purple with rage, struggling to his elbows, the old man shouted, “So who’s watching the store?”
