When Buzzy and I toured India, we were coming out of one of the hotel’s rest rooms where an attendant offered us a paper towel to dry our hands. If you took the towel, the attendant then held out his other hand for a tip. I turned down the towel but to my surprise Buzzy accepted it and gave the young man a tip. Never one to do much tipping, Buzzy gave the young man a rupee which would be about a quarter for us. I asked Buzzy why he gave the guy a tip. Buzzy said “Well, when you think about it, that’s a job for him and he’s not out on the street begging like all these others. So what’s a quarter to help him out.”
I thought of that example of a made up “job” after seeing the feedback in the sports blog world over Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones having someone clean his glasses for him (video below.) Even found an article on other weird jobs performed by celebrity gophers including #6 cited above for Rod Stewart click here. (Would like to think that if I ever lucked out and made that kind of money, I would still clean my own glasses. However, that room darkening team idea does have some appeal.)
