When I saw (click here ) that St. Mary’s College men’s basketball team has advanced to the Elite Eight and will play their next game in Salem, my first thought was that they were heading to Massachusetts. (All those witches I’ve known thru the years probably swayed me to think that way.)
Well, turns out that there are a load of places named Salem including the one in Virginia where the Seahawks are heading. Spurred me to check out the most popular names for U.S. towns and found that Wikipedia has Salem in the top five as follows:
Greenville (50,) Franklin (30,) Clinton (29,) Springfield (28) and Salem with 25.
But I also found this article that claims Riverside, Centerville, Fairview and Franklin are the most popular names. So go figure – literally. Guess it boils down to the Bill Clinton qualifier when discussing things “Depends on what your definition of is is.”
