My Mom was telling me about some ongoing churn over the administration of St. Ignatius Church located just outside the Webster Field gate. I didn’t get all the details, but I did have to smile when she concluded with “If Beth was still alive, this wouldn’t be an issue.”
This wasn’t the first time either that my Mom had said something similar about an ongoing matter in the First District and concluded with “If Beth was still alive.” She had also invoked Beth concerning the Scotland Post Office’s closing and the College’s boat house construction.
Thus, it was a nice gesture by the St. Mary’s Historic Preservation Commission to present Beth a posthumous award in recognition of her life-long efforts in historic preservation (Click here for story.) Muffin and Mark McCoy accepted the award on behalf of the family. Like all posthumous recognitions, it would have been nicer to have done this while Beth was still here, but better late than never right?
