Four ladies rolled into Buzzy’s the other day as part of a girls’ weekend. One of them whose name was Rose asked about Bob Mann’s whereabouts and then proceeded to relate a funny story about a work-related trip that she and Bob and some others once made to Montreal. (Bob later confirmed Rose’s story which involved much drinking and partying but no sex so it was a PG story.)
Rose’s friend Sharon then asked if Buzzy was my father and proceeded to inform me that she and I were related. Turns out that her grandmother Leila, who married a Lumpkins, and my grandfather were brother and sister. Sharon said that whenever she came into the Store, that Buzzy would always called her “Cuz.” I told Sharon that since Buzzy’s Mom Ms. Hattie was a Norris and since his Grandmother on his Ridgell side of the family was a Hammett, he had alot of folks that he called “Cuz.”
After talking to Sharon, I later contacted my cousin JoJo to ask if he knew how we tied in with Sharon and the Lumpkins. He explained the connection with Aunt Leila. Right after I put this out on the blog earlier today, JoJo sent me the following:
Hi, after seeing the picture and name Sharon, I recognized her. She is Johnny and Florence’s youngest daughter. I attended her wedding, but for the life of me, I don’t remember her married name. Johnny and Florence inherited aunt Leila’s home on Airedale road across from Drury’s marina, and restored it. One final note, Sharon is your 2nd cousin once removed. Hope this fills in some of the blanks.
