Mike Raley and I saw Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) at Wolf Trap the other night. Very hot evening but a great show. (For a review of the concert click here.)
Ian and his band mates performed Thick as a Brick and its followup Thick as a Brick 2. Both albums detail the life comings and goings of a character created by Anderson. One song Cosey Corner even has the young man running a corner store where “Regulars drop by to chat in idle gossip, repetition.” Think I know what Ian’s talking about there.
Highlight of the evening came however, after Anderson had finished performing TAAB I & 2 and returned for an encore. As the keyboardist began the slow intro to the song, the entire audience erupted in recognition of what was to come. Raley and I exchanged high fives and then rocked along to the “shuffling madness” once the song kicked in (here at the 2:00 mark.) First video was filmed at a concert a few months back and captures the feel of the performance Mike and I saw. The second video is a little better production-wise and features the original Jethro Tull members.
