Happy Veterans Day to all who served. Flag below is on display on Store front porch and was a loaner to me from Harry Wheatley who served in the 23rd Infantry (Americal Division.) (Click here for a listing of units that served in Viet Nam.)
Found a letter from my Brother Steve who was assigned to an Engineering Unit when he was in Viet Nam. Excerpt follows: “The road we are building is coming along just fine. I’m back on my dozer just where I want to be. But since the road is going so well and faster than they had planned, we have to move because the farther we get with the road, the farther we got to go. They don’t want us too far from the main base so everything is mixed up just like all of my time here. In the Army you always look for the worse and when they give you something good, you know it was a mistake. Speaking of the main base, we are getting a new PX. They have just finished building two new clubs, one for the EM’s and one for the lifers. Next we are also supposed to get a bath house and a steam bath run by Madam K (whores.) So if Nixon is getting us out by 72 the gooks are going to be living in style. Well take it easy and I’ll send some pictures of my R&R.”
