The reference to playing pitch reminded me of something Mr. Bean told me one night here in the Store. (I previously discussed how he and the family dropped in Buzzy’s one Saturday night after a wedding and I took this photo (click here.))
In keeping with the pitch reference in the excerpt above, that night in Buzzy’s Country Store, Mr. Bean told me how he and his running mate Robert Stone used to come down to Buzzy’s and get into a pitch game. He noted that one night he and Robert won several games when Buzzy was playing with a partner against them. He discussed how Buzzy gave him a hard time about winning by saying “You Second District boys shouldn’t be coming down here and taking money out of the First District like this. If you don’t start losing some, I’m not letting you back in here.” Mr. Bean said “I think Buzzy was kidding me, but I wasn’t too sure about it. He didn’t appreciate us taking his money.”
