This day in history marks the shooting of 4 students at Kent State in 1970.
A Kent State student John Filo won a Pulitzer for his photo of the young lady with the outstretched arms (click here.) For an update on the young lady in the photo (click here.) Also, there was some controversy involving a bit of airbrushing done on the original photo (click here.)
I’ll leave it to you to Youtube CSNY’s “Four Dead in Ohio” tune. I always had a less-than-favorable take on the song. Thought that the lyrics were lame, Neil whined more than his usual and that the tune itself was drearily annoying (as those guitar D chords will do.) Hence, it never made it into my rotation of go-to songs. Too bad that Chrissie Hynde, who was also on campus that day attending Kent State, didn’t write a song about it.
