In case you missed it, the other day Gilligan’s Island T-V show hit its 50th year anniversary (click here) of having debuted on 26 September 1964. Made me dig out the two little figures above that I had previously found stashed in Buzzy’s old knick knack box. Whomever gave these to Buzzy labelled Gilligan as Polock and the Skipper as Buzzy.
Gilligan gets mentioned frequently in the Store whenever folks talk about the Smith Island or for that matter any tour. When the question is asked “How long is the tour” and the response is “About 4 hours,” someone will invariably intone “A three hour tour.” Those of us of a certain age who get the reference will always smile.
A Gilligan joke I heard went “If the Professor could make a radio out of coconuts, why couldn’t he fix a hole in a boat?”
Only the two babes from the original cast are still here with us as all the others have left the island.
