Found this book that someone had given Buzzy years ago. It contains a number of stories and anecdotes about the doings at a country store located on the Eastern Shore. Got me thinking that perhaps I should do something similar. If I did so, the following would definitely be included as one of my chapters titled
A REASONABLE REQUEST
“Sheriff came by my house and said he had a restraining order from my ex that he had to give me. I told him ‘No problem I don’t plan on wanting to be around her anymore anyway.’
He then said “I got some bad news for you though. She says in here that you own 5 guns and I need to confiscate all of them from you.’
I told him ‘You’re taking my guns just when hunting season is starting? Besides, she’s nothing but a goddamn liar.’
Sheriff says ‘You denying you own 5 guns?’
Told him ‘Deed I am. I don’t own 5, I own 6.’
Sheriff says ‘Well, she’s only got 5 listed here.’
I told him ‘That’s because she didn’t know about the shotgun I kept in the garage.’
Sheriff says ‘Well, if I confiscate the 5 guns she says you got, how do I know you’re not going to shoot her with the 6th one.’
I told him ‘Believe me if I’d wanted her dead, she’d been dead long before now.’
Sheriff just shook his head and said “OK, let me have the 5 guns she’s got listed here and I’ll let you keep the 6th one then.’
I told him “Seems like a reasonable request to me.”
