Remember me telling you about retiring my trusty travel hat that went around the world with me under it (click here?)I used to keep my Rock n Roll HoF travel cap in my suitcase ready to go but now it is retired and hanging up in Buzzy’s Country Store. I’d like to blame that little change in my travel prep as the reason that I forgot to bring a hat with me on this trip. Actually I did have a Bruce Willis beanie hat that I wore to BWI in the freezing February cold but it didn’t cut it as a warm weather option.
Following a Buzzy rule of travel “If I forgot it, I’ll buy it” I set out to secure a hat.Once on board the cruise ship, I saw a Celebrity hat going for $20 which is about twice what I wanted to pay for a hat. Remind you now that I have over 1,000 baseball hats at my disposal along with several dozen new Buzzy’s Country Store hats that I just received a few weeks ago to sell in the Store.
Our first tour stop was the Grand Cayman Island which while lacking the charm of our St. George’s Island and the pleasantness of our Solomons Island, otherwise has a lot going for it as in money, lots of money. Only 102 square miles, the Grand Cayman is one of the wealthiest places in the world. With over 600 banks and 40 of them ranked in the top 50 in the world, the Cayman’s success is due to their off shore banking aka “alternative investment” policies (click here for related story.)
While I liked the Grand Cayman Island, I didn’t care for the couple of souvenir shops I visited in search of a hat. Both of the shops I visited contained the sign warning “You Break You Buy.” Another Buzzy rule of travel “Anytime you see the YBYB sign, you don’t buy anything in that shop because they are rude.”
Thus, back on board the ship I re-visit the shopping area this time with wife Pam who spots a “2 for $30” sign. The deal includes a hat and a t-shirt for $30. Keep in mind also that I have more than enough t-shirts to last me for whatever time I have left here on this earth and then some. But Pam talks me into taking advantage of this “deal.” So I pick out a hat and a shirt.
However, the t-shirt I wanted wasn’t in stock in my size so I had to settle on one that I’m not particularly fond of. Bottom line, here I am posing with a hat I didn’t need and a shirt I don’t like. C’est la tourist vie. Next time, you can bet that a Buzzy hat will either be in my suitcase or on my head when I leave home.
