Speaking of the current Confederate flag controversy, for years Buzzy used to keep the Stars and Bars on display front and center on a shelf behind the counter.

On a couple of occasions I would try and point out to him that it wasn’t exactly the coolest thing to have that particular flag displayed so prominently there behind the counter. However, he never acknowledged nor seemed to care much that it could be seen as a source of controversy. I don’t think he was making any statements per se but simultaneously he never recognized that it could have been a source of concern to some. Thus, the flag remained where it had always been.
Invoking the Rule of Two, i.e. after suggesting something twice to him and him continuing to ignore it, I let it be. Accordingly, I did not bug him about it again. (Good article here on the matter as it pertains to country music (click here.))
But isn’t all this churn about the flag a bit of a smoke screen? Would seem to me that the focus and discussion should be on ways to curb gun violence as in how could and why did an idiot like this get a hold of a gun in the first place. I know, guns don’t kill people blah blah but neither do flags.
However, as someone noted previously, if the killing of 20 first graders in Sandy Hook did not lead to any real gun violence measures, nothing ever will. So let’s continue to kick the flag issue around some more. Still, it does seem a bit ironic that while this idiot says that he was trying to start a race war, all he really did was to succeed in doing away with the Stars and Bars flag. Like the song here says “It ain’t the flag.”
