On the subject of visitors to Buzzy’s Country Store (previous post,) in the past month or two I have had 4 different groups of folks in the area because they were having a family reunion here in the First District. The funny thing about all 4 of these reunions is that none of the folks were from here and, with one exception, none of them had ever been here before. (The one exception is a group from Boston who come down annually the first week in August for their family vacation/reunion. This marked the third year that they have returned here.)
Of the other three groups, one couple (Mom and Dad) drove up from Ft. Pierce, Florida to rent one of Peggy’s bigger places to accommodate their son and his family from New York, their daughter and her family from Ashville, NC and their third son and his family who flew in from California – the state – to join them. They enjoyed meeting and getting to know Buzzy’s 4 O’clock Club and plan to return again next year.
As to why all these folks chose Maryland in general and Southern Maryland in particular to host their family reunions they noted that it was a central East Coast location for them and their scattered families. Airfares in and out of the Baltimore/DC area weren’t bad and they all wanted to be on the water someplace quiet vs. say somewhere noisy like Ocean City or Miami Beach.
