Found this photo of Brother Gary in with Buzzy’s hodge podge of photo’s that he took thru the years. In his own way, Buzzy was a decent photographer. However, most of the photos that he took of folks at the Store are a little, let’s say “uneven.” First problem is that he used the cheapest, Instamatic, K-Mart discounted camera that he could have found. As a result, the majority of the photos that he took were mostly of out-of-focus folks standing around the counter in various stages of drunkenness.
But this photo, on the other hand, caught my eye as Buzzy photographed an unsuspecting, non-posed Gary during the 1997 Christmas party. I like the way that Buzzy caught Gary, beer and cigarette in hand, just relaxing, checking things out from the side and leaning on the Coke case. Gary is centered, your eye is pulled to him as the surroundings are just indistinct enough so as to not detract from the main subject. All in all it is a great shot of our birthday boy and definitely one of Buzzy’s better photographic efforts.
Below is another photo from that night in 97 of Gary along with Bart and JW. This one is more in keeping with Buzzy’s usual shots – no one is looking at the camera, distracting kid is drinking a soda in the forefront along with the clock in the background showing 8:05. This is more representative of the kind of Buzzy-taken photo that you see and say “What is going on here?”
