Jerry

Seeing Jerry Orbach very briefly as the father of Baby Dirty Dancing in my previous post reminded me what a great, unsung actor/performer he was. You are probably going “Who?” 

And that’s my point, Jerry was one of those outstanding character actors who was always so good that he just kind of melted into the story.  When watching him, you never felt like he was acting because he made it look so easy.

Most of you will recognize him from the T-V show Law and Order where he played the been-there-seen-it-all Detective Lennie Briscoe.  



But a review of Jerry’s pre-Detective-Lennie-career (click here) shows that Jerry was a very accomplished Broadway actor who first starred in the 1960’s The Fantasticks where he performed this great song.  (Always thought that the term “callow fellow” was a cool description of someone young and dumb.  I may have hummed that verse a time or two.)
