Following last week’s Paris attacks, this Peace for Paris design popped up all over. (Showing my age, I still have a problem writing “gone viral.”) Thought it was a good combination of images to sum things up for the City of Lights.

Also made me think of how the Eiffel Tower has become Paris’ trademark symbol despite the anti-sentiment it incited when it first appeared in 1889. Witness the following:

Some pretty strong words used there to describe it as “the hateful shadow of the hateful column of boiled sheet metal” wouldn’t you agree? And this was just their reaction to the Tower being projected to stand for 20 years as originally intended. Wonder what level of angst would have ensued had the author(s) of the quote known that it was to become a permanent fixture of the Paris skyline?
Buzzy and I did the Eiffel Tower in the fall of 98. Look closely at my photo of it here and you will see 408 which indicated 408 days before year 2000.
