Mony. Mony Alternate Version


Years ago I worked with a rock and roll kind of lady who liked to hang out, party and dance.  I recall her telling me one Monday morning how mad she was at Dickie and Hilda Gatton for banning the song Mony Mony from being played at the Brass Rail.  “What’s wrong with it?” I asked.  She said “They don’t like it when people sing the dirty version.”  I didn’t know what she was talking about at the time.

Soon afterwards however, I began taking wedding pictures.  I caught the whole Mony Mony alternate version numerous times at wedding receptions and dances where a bunch of drunken partyers would shout out the “dirty” lyrics. 

To be honest, I never particularly cared for the dirty version not based on any moral objections but because I thought that it ruined an otherwise great song.  Click on this link to get the entire Mony Mony alternate version story along with several other videos of it.  See if you don’t agree with me that the original Tommy James version (above) is still the best:
