Not Just Another Day

Forget Groundhog Day, happy Candlemas Day.  OK, so you don’t know what that is but let me try to explain it.

It stems from some Hebrew tradition that a mother was not clean or purified until 40 days after the birth of her child.  In keeping with the orthodoxy then, Mary presented Jesus at the temple today 40 days after His birth at Christmas.  Sure seems like a long time to get purified but we’re talking old time religion here.

While I am not too sure about all that religious mumbo jumbo, I do like that today marks the halfway point of winter.
