Big Cities

Here is a little quiz for you – name the 15 largest cities in the U.S. (and by largest I mean most populous.)  While you are thinking about your list I’ll tell you why I thought of this.

On my Sunday drive home from Buzzy’s Country Store, I was listening to an interview with North Carolina’s Governor McCrory.  He of course was trying to explain their bathroom law and noted that for 14 years he was the mayor of Charlotte “which is the 15th or 16th largest city in the United States.”  Hearing him say that then set me thinking about the other 14 cities that rank in front of Charlotte.

The big boys, New York, Chicago and LA are easy ones to list.  However, as I soon found out, trying to identify numbers 4 thru 14 is tougher.  I came up with my list and once I was home, hit the old Google machine to see how accurate I was or in my case wasn’t.

Five of the cities that I had in my top 15 didn’t make it.  (My biggest miss was citing Miami which is ranked at 44 (click here.)  All of those Miami Vice T-V episodes I watched must have made me think that the city of Miami is much bigger than it really is.)

So do your list and see what cities you come up with.  However, be prepared to be surprised when you see which ones are or aren’t on the list of our top 15 largest cities.  P.S.  The city of Charlotte was actually 17th on the list but McCrory is a politician so he’s forgiven for misstating the facts.
