Talking Baseball (Tale of Two Teams)

End of month O’s and Nats’ Buzzy update.

Up to just a couple days ago, the O’s and Nats were almost identical record-wise.

However, the O’s are currently in a serious slump and have dropped out of first place in their division while the Nats continue to play decently.

From http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings

The O’s have floundered mostly because they can not win on the road and have now lost 5 straight games.  Good news is that they head back home tomorrow.  Bad news is their schedule in August has them on a 10 game West Coast road trip and then 5 games later in the month on the road against the Nats and the Yankees.  If they don’t get their road act together, it could be a very long month for the Orange and Black.  Keep your fingers crossed that the dog days of August do not mean that the O’s go to the dogs.

On the other hand, the Nationals are in much better shape for a number of reasons.  A, their pitching is still excellent which explains why their 114 run differential is second in MLB only to the Cubs at 163.  And B, unlike the Orioles, they play as well on the road as they do at home.

Also, up with a 5 game lead, the Nats’ lead a division very ripe for the taking as the Mets, Marlins, Phillies and Braves show no signs of putting on a run to compete with them.  And finally on top of all that, the Nats are succeeding even without some of their big guns contributing much to date – yeah, talking bout you Bryce.  (You know you’ve hit absolute rock bottom performance-wise when not only are you being criticized by all the big time sports bubbas on the scene but also you are being  called out on the Buzzyblog,  so come on Bryce, get it together dude!)

Dusty talks about his new book Kiss the Sky” musically and things baseball including Bryce’s walk up song selections (click here and go to the 6:35 mark.)  Maybe Bryce just hasn’t found the right walk up song this year.  Daniel Murphy continues to play well with his walk up song selections (one of which is shown below) so perhaps Bryce should consult him on what tune(s) to play.
