With 20 January approaching, the Elton tune Madman Across the Water has been on my mind a lot lately. The lyrics, written by Bernie Taupin in 1971, have widely been recognized as a tune with then President Richard Nixon in mind. Several music critics and reviewers made the case for such an interpretation as follows:

Songfacts also does a nice job of making the case for such an interpretation. However, Bernie claims that it was not about Nixon (click here) but about some character he once encountered in a mental institution when he made a visit there.
As to whether or not the song is relevant today to Number 45 about to take the helm in two weeks, keep your fingers crossed that it is not.
