Memorial Day History/Controversy

Memorial Day, a time for us to remember all the folks who fought for our Country.

It was officially made a National holiday in 1971 but its origins go back to the Civil War (click here.)  In fact, some Southern States still celebrate Confederate Memorial Day in May.  In turn, this has generated some controversy amidst the move to erase anything that is connected with the Confederacy(click here.)

All of which is reason enough to play this Southern anthem for you.  (Did you know that Ronnie’s “Turn it up” at the beginning of this (0:05 mark) was not supposed to be in the song? It was Ronnie telling the recording engineers to turn up the volume in his headphones (click here for story.)
