Iron Bowl Today

Today college football features one the better rivalries in all of sports as Auburn and Alabama play in the annual Iron Bowl.  (It is named Iron Bowl because it started out being played in Birmingham, Alabama where a lot of iron was being produced at one time.  Now it seems that Birmingham is getting to be known mostly for its number of winners and contestants on American Idol (click here.))

In 2013 my son Brady and I were in San Francisco on this Thanksgiving weekend to attend one of the final football games being played at Candlestick Park before it was demolished.  While we were in the hotel room, we flipped on the Iron Bowl to catch the end of that year’s Iron Bowl.  I sure am glad we did because it was quite a game and featured an unbelievable ending (see video below.)

Because of the kick return for a winning touchdown with no time left on the clock, the game has come to be known as the Kick Six game.  The game and the final play were recognized with 2013 ESPY awards for best game and best play of the year 2013.

What I most enjoy about watching the Iron Bowl is that I don’t care one way or the other who wins.  I like both schools and both teams and really don’t have a favorite that I root for or against.  That means I can sit back and enjoy the game.

Think I have probably overplayed Sweet Home Alabama for you previously here on the Buzzyblog so how’s about something from Brad talking bout Bama – the band.
