Things Overheard in a Country Store

Kayla McKay, working behind the counter at Buzzy’s Country Store, documented in recent FB posts some of what she has overheard from that vantage point:

I always try to advise the folks who work the counter at Buzzy’s that they are going to hear all sorts of b.s. and they should just get used to it.  However, as Kayla has noted above, you will still hear some things that just make you smile and shake your head.

It reminded me of a short story titled “Oh, the Conversations We Heard” where the author discusses her memories of her mama’s country store (click here.)  Here is an excerpt:

The store porch was a place where great conversations of various subjects often took place. Topics such as politics, religion, death, love, marriage, divorce, the good ole days, and even sex, was discussed between neighbors and friends. Reflecting back, I now realize that many of my beliefs, opinions and much of my early education originated from conversations that I overheard and from those that I later participated in while sitting on the old school bus seats on Mama’s store porch.

Speaking of talking and gossiping, check out The Rumor from The Band.  With the exception of the Beatles, I can’t think of any other rock band that featured 3 such talented vocalists as did The Band.  Listen to Richard Manuel, Rick Danko and Levon Helm and see if you can tell who’s who.  (Hint one is singing on the left, one on the right and one in the middle.  Now that’s some great stereo!)
