Several times I have heard visitors to Buzzy’s Country Store describe it as being similar to a British pub. I smile and thank them because I regard it as quite a compliment even if I don’t necessarily agree with them. Pubs are bars that serve food. Buzzy’s on the other hand is not a bar per se and serves no food.
What we do have in common however, and what I think inspires visitors to make the comparison, is that we both have folks from all walks of life sitting around relaxing, talking and enjoying each other’s company.
CBS’ Sunday Morning’s T-V did a segment on how British pubs are disappearing. It noted that they have witnessed a decline from approximately 65,000 pubs ten years ago to now only approximately 50,000. That’s something else Buzzy’s and British pubs have in common – they are the last of a dying breed. Like I respond to Buzzy visitors who tell me how much they enjoy the place “Enjoy it because they aren’t making anymore.”
