No Hitters (Subtitle – What’s Up Doc?)

Speaking of no hitters in baseball, Doc Ellis‘ effort while taking LSD in 1970 is still one of the greatest sports stories ever told.  Listen to him tell it and say the classic line at the 32:00 mark “I’m high as a Georgia pine.”

Doc later participated in “No No Dockumentary” in which he wasn’t so funny about the incident and in fact went on to become a drug counsellor.

Singer Barbara Manning even wrote and recorded a song about Doc’s no hitter:

Interesting footnote to the Doc’s story: the box score for the ball game in which he pitched the no hitter reads: Pitcher – Ellis, D.  (If you don’t get it, you just don’t get it.)
