Ugliest State Capitols

While on a tour of Juneau, the guide instructed us “Look to your left and you will see the 50th most attractive State Capitol in the United States.”

Juneau as Alaska’s state capitol has long been a contentious issue for them.  At one time Alaskans even passed a referendum vote to move their capitol farther north.  (click here.)  

While Alaska’s Capitol doesn’t look too great, the Governor’s Mansion isn’t too bad.

On the subject of ugly state capitols, here is a good discussion (click here.)  Seems like the North Dakota one gets mentioned a lot for winner of the ugliest capitol:

However, I got to go with my Juneau tour guide’s assessment that Alaska’s turd-brown, brick box has got to be the ugliest.  Looks more like a prison, doesn’t it?

At the other end of the spectrum, my vote for most attractive state capitol goes to Hawaii’s:
