Mentioning the upcoming Buzzy Car Show (this Sunday, 7 October) and his birthday on 10/11, stirred up some mixed emotions for me as follows:
The very first Buzzy Car Show was set for Sunday 14 June 2009. With the 14th of June being Flag Day, I thought that that would be an ideal time to raise up a new flagpole at the Store and have some classic cars around also. You know, a good excuse for a party. Here is my Blogpost from back then:
Sadly however I had to cancel that event because Buzzy passed away on 11 June. The Flag Pole Raising and Car Show event was moved to later that summer.
It wasn’t until 2013 that I moved the Car Show to the first Sunday in October.
I chose October mainly because that’s a less busy time of the year and the weather is a lot nicer. It wasn’t until 2014 that I moved it to the Sunday before the Columbus Day holiday weekend. (Columbus Day is officially on 12 October but is always celebrated on the second Monday of October.) Couple of my Buzzy friends complained that I was interfering with their plans to attend the Ocean City Car Show which is always on that same weekend. I considered it a bit but ultimately decided to stick with the Columbus Day Sunday.
At the time it did not really occur to me that the Columbus Day Sunday would also correlate closer to Buzzy’s 10/11 birthday. However this fact really hit home in 2015 when the Buzzy Car Show actually fell on the 11th. Here’s my Blog post from October 2015:
Thus, the Buzzy Car Show has evolved from an event that I had to initially cancel because of his death to where it is now on or about his birthday. Funny how things work out isn’t it? (The next time the Columbus Day Sunday falls on 11 October is in 2020. Hopefully, we will all be around to celebrate that!)
Leave it to The Cars to record a song titled Drive:
