Another great reason why October IS the best month has to do with sports. College and NFL football are in full swing. The NBA and NHL are just starting their seasons; and MLB begins their playoffs ultimately culminating with the World Series. (Little trivia break here for you – name the only 2 teams in the MLB that have never played in a World Series. Answer below.)
Fortunately for both our local baseball teams the 2018 season is over not a minute too soon. The Nationals hugely disappointed and the Orioles, well here’s their headline:

The only consolation for us Orioles’ fans is that even losing 115 games they did not end up the worst team ever in the history of baseball. They came in 5th worst team in the MLB history (click here.) (They still own the American League’s longest losing streak at 21 games though.)
John Carbone forwarded me a good article on how one fan survived the season through yoga and humor (click here.) (I know all about how humor gets you through hard times but have yet to discover the secrets of how yoga accomplishes that. Something I may have to look into though.)
As for the baseball post season, it should be good even if neither of our local teams are participating. Houston is back, loaded with pitching and could very well be the first team in a long time to repeat. The Yankees and Red Sox are in and should they meet somewhere along the line that’s always fun. (My bottom line on the Yanks and Sox playing each other – one of ’em is gonna lose.) Upstart teams like the Rockies and Brewers are dangerous and fun to watch. So it should be good. For more low down on playoff teams (click here.) And for us Orioles’ fans – we can always root for the Dodgers who feature one time Oriole Manny Machado.
Trivia answer – Seattle Mariners and the Washington Nationals are the only 2 teams to have never been in the World Series. Guess you could say there is a “Washington” jinx at work somewhere.
Did you know that Joan Jett is a big Orioles fan (click here.) This tune of hers seems appropriate for O’s fans and the season we had to endure this year watching them:
