Tiki Bars

Tiki bars never did much for me.   I don’t exactly know why because in general I prefer “outside” bars to the usual dark and stuffy interior bars.  My dislike of things Tiki also may have something to do with our Solomon’s Island Tiki Bar which I always thought was an awful, see-and-be-seen, overpriced rip off of a place.

Solomon’s Tiki Bar – Gone and Forgotten

(Another reason I don’t care for Tiki Bars has to do with my upbringing in a country store that doubled as a bar.  In Buzzy’s, things were definitely non-Tiki.  No fake palm trees, items were priced right, the clientele was not of the see-and-be-seen variety and the atmosphere in Buzzy’s was never forced nor pseudo;  in fact it may have been a little too down to earth and genuine at times.  Thus, my disdain for Tiki Bars may have something to do with what was ingrained in me from a young age.  How’s the old saying go – you can never get above your raisin’.)

I thought of all this when I listened to this recent podcast from a series titled Life Behind Bars.

In each episode, the Life Behind Bars narrators discuss various bar room issues and topics.  It’s a good discussion about bars and drinks in general.  In this episode the topic is Tiki Bars in general and those in New York in particular.

One disclaimer for all you Trumpsters out there: I did not include this particular Tiki Bar episode just to make the Donald appear any meaner and pettier than he already is.  In fact, him throwing a Tiki Bar out of his place of business is something I would applaud him for.   I found the following at The Daily Beast.
