Election Day Hassels

The other day I suggested shortening the election cycle to make it a less onerous affair.  Here then is another suggestion that’s been on my mind and was reinforced by this recent letter to the Enterprise from Sue Lyddon-Hayes:

The letter appeared in the Friday 9 Nov edition of the Enterprise (click here.)

Sue was being nice in her suggestion that politicians instruct their volunteers to behave.  However, my suggestion goes one step further by proposing to just outlaw all of that malarkey.  Don’t allow any such gatherings, tents nor tables nor signs anywhere near polling places.  I haven’t talked to anyone yet who thinks that all those folks hanging around the polls trying to influence how you vote serve any useful purpose.  Even the candidates running for office that I talked to said that they didn’t care for it and doubted that it did any good for them.  Why is it allowed then?   Just mandate that they can’t do it.

Speaking of running, check out this dude running to stop his ex-girlfriend’s wedding only to be surprised big time.
