Hot Rod Musings and the Hammer of the Honky Tonk Gods

OK, so Buzzy’s ride (previous post) was not as I stated a “Hot Rod Lincoln.”   I passed along some bad info there but it did lead me to doing some research that I am about to bore you with.

Hot Rod Lincoln, the song, was written and recorded  in 1955 by a fella named Charlie Ryan.

Mr. Ryan wrote the song based on some of his real life experiences.  (Maybe Dickie Cullison should start writing hot rod songs based on his experiences behind the wheel.)

For those of you who thought that Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen were the originators of Hot Rod Lincoln join the club because I was under that impression too.  Cody and company recorded the tune in 1971 and featured Bill Kirchen on lead guitar.  Kirchen lived in Maryland a number of years and was a fixture in the D.C roots music scene.  He is still active and touring and  will be appearing in Salisbury Maryland next month at the National Folk Festival.

You’ve heard Hot Rod Lincoln a bazillion times so here’s something else from Bill that’s equally and may be even a little bit better.
