Bait and Click

My bait supplier called Friday to check and see if I needed anything.  This time of year I usually have the Buzzy bait freezer stocked up with all sorts of items for wanna be fishermen to purchase.  Depending on the weather forecast I will also lay in a stash of blood worms.  Weather nice, blood worms sell; weather bad, blood worms remain in the Buzzy fridge.

However, as I told my bait salesman, about the only bait I’m messing with right now is click bait.  You know, those internet items and popups designed to suck you in and make you click on them.  For example, here is one that for some unexplained reason just happened to catch my eye recently:

Of course, being the great music lover that I am, I had to click on the link.  (Truth be told, music or otherwise, I would probably have done so anyway just because of the “chick” bait photo.)

But once I got to the site listing the 40 records, I ran into the following:

That’s the other lousy thing about many click bait items, the host sites get reimbursed or rewarded for number of clicks on their site once they sucker you in.  Thus, to maximize the number of clicks possible, they stretch your visit out by making you click your way thru the entire list while tossing in an ad or two.  Whenever I click bait my way into a slideshow like this, I immediately exit out and move on down the internet highway.  I’m a travelling man you know.  For more info on click bait (click here)  and I assure there is no slide show awaiting you to click through to read it all.

Found this Youtube video on the subject.  They provide you the answer so you don’t have to click.  Call it Jeopardy click bait.  Sample here:
