Close But No Cigar

A Good Sign

Gov. Hogan issued a New Order yesterday evening that moved the State toward Stage 2 of re-opening.  However, he did not include bars and restaurants in that group of businesses that he allowed to resume operations at this time (click here for related story.)  The outdoor seating that he allowed last week remains the most recent change in this regard.

In yesterday’s post I mentioned how bars and restaurants can now do outdoor seating provided they obtain an Extension of Premise from the County.  An Enterprise article explained how the process to obtain that permission has been streamlined.

As always however, the devil is in the details.  Check out the following instructions and requirements from the St. Mary’s County Health Department in order to obtain their approval for an extension of premise:

In addition to permission from the Health Department, businesses must also obtain approvals from the County’s Alcohol Board and Sheriff’s office.  The good news I am hearing from folks who have successfully obtained their approvals is that all three of these agencies are turning these requests around fairly quickly.

P.S. Do you know how the “Close But No Cigar” title above originated?  (Click here if not.)

I thought of the line “Well it’s been 3 months since I was last with you” but couldn’t remember just who sang it until I googled it just now.  The irony of this is for some reason the ensuing line of “The doorman he just laughed” is one that ricochets around in my head from time to time.
