St. Jerome’s Neck Road

Another historic South County Road (and one of my favorites in all of the County) is St. Jerome’s Neck Road. It is a long and winding road (even before the Beatles said that) and has several large farms, home places and historic sites. For those of you not familiar with St. Jerome’s Road, check this map out and note its convoluted 4.5 mile stretch from Rt. 235 to the mouth of St. Jerome’s Creek just off the Bay.

I found this 2012 Maryland Historical Trust description of the Road (click here.)

Regarding the mention of the Dameron House, this is the historic house owned by Paula and Steve Decker who, despite trying to sell it for several years, were left no choice but to have it burnt down in 2013.

As for the other historic home mentioned in the Historic Trust article above, St. Jerome’s Manor, I found this article on it (click here.) (Note I plan to do a future update on this.)

At the very end of St. Jerome’s Road, sits a beautiful, red roofed home that Marshall and Mary Ludlow had built in the 2009 timeframe. Because of its size and red roof, it now serves as a marker for boaters looking to venture to and from St. Jerome’s Creek. Great photo of it here from daughter Sherry’s FB page:

Note that there are several other St. Jerome’s places and sites to be mentioned. Thus, stay tuned for a St. Jerome’s Road Pt. 2 post in the Buzzyblog future.

Nice little road tune here from Norwegian group a-Ha:
