August Vacations

I enjoy having vacationers visit Buzzy’s Country Store for many reasons and not just because they don’t mind spending money. (That would have been Buzzy’s Number 1 reason for liking them but as I always say – if I was running Buzzy’s for the money, I would not be there.)

I like having vacationers in the Store because they are generally upbeat, positive folks who really are there for the party so to speak. While the rest of us are muddling along doing our day-to-day-thing, vacationers are life’s adventurers out there traveling and looking to have some fun. That they drop into Buzzy’s to relax and, as one described it “soak up some local culture,” I like having them around and either adding to or sharing in their experience(s.)

While Southern Maryland in general and South County specifically have always been great vacation destinations, I credit Pier 450 owner Peggy Binzel and her Scotland Yards beach rentals, as taking it up a notch or two or three. (Note that in addition to Peggy’s offerings there are now several other Vrbo/Airbnb waterfront places in the First and Second Districts including my friend Ray Raley’s Creekside Getaway on St. Jerome Creek (click here.)

This past Sunday I had some folks drop into Buzzy’s Country Store and while knocking back a beer or two, told me how they were vacationing in one of Peggy’s places. I teased them how we refer to them as “Peggy’s People.” One of them informed me that he always takes his family on vacation the second week in August each year because school resumes mid-August. (I imagine that that is probably how and why for most of us, August became THE vacation month as in – better enjoy what time you have left before the kids have to go back to school.)

But even the folks who don’t have to organize their lives around kids and their schedules, will often slot their vacations in August. Just yesterday I had a nice couple pop into Buzzy’s Country Store and after talking with them for a bit I learned that they too were “on vacation” and very happy to be spending a week in the area. They also were staying in one of Peggy’s beach rentals and noted that they were having a very relaxing time doing so.

Just for fun then, I went on the Vrbo website to book a week long vacation for next week. I entered 20-26 August as my week-long stay and these two entries popped up as being available:

Leads me to wonder if perhaps I shouldn’t turn Buzzy’s into a Vrbo kind of place.

But speaking of partying, see what Waylon had to say about it:
