It’s 5 O’clock Jimmy

Following Jimmy Buffett’s moving on down the line, I did a little Buzzy survey in the Store asking folks to name their favorite tune of his. I was only a little surprised that several younger folks I asked this question drew a blank look and said something to the effect that they were never much into him. One young guy finessed the question by telling me “I think my parents liked some song of his about getting drunk and screwing. But I never listened to him.” Ah, yes nothing like thinking about your folks getting drunk and screwing to turn you off listening to someone right?

Among those who did manage to muster an answer however, “It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere” was mentioned several times. Remember this was in Buzzy’s and mostly my Buzzy people answering, so it makes sense that a booze-based Buffett tune would tend to be cited as their favorite.

What I did not mention to my respondents however, is that the irony of “5 O’clock Somewhere” is that Jimmy did not write it and it was really an Alan Jackson tune. Jimmy made an appearance with Alan after he (Alan) wondered “What would Jimmy Buffet do?” To catch that video (click here.) The following is from Wiki:

I have played the following previously for you but in memory of Jimmy let’s do it again. I like the “That’s not true; it may be 5:30 somewhere” clarification line (1:45 mark.) Never thought about it technically being off by half an hour.
