Blue Balls

First Buzzy event of the New Year will be bringing some motorcycles to Buzzy’s. And yes, Buzzy’s will be open Monday so the Blueballers can warm up before hitting the road for their return ride home.

And speaking of blues, most folks know this as an Eagles’ Christmas tune, but the original version was written and performed by Texas bluesman Charles Brown in 1960. Although Brown’s version of the tune did not attain anywhere near the success of the Eagles’ take, he did have a Christmas song hit as the lead vocalist and pianist of the 1947 tune “Merry Christmas Baby.”

Lyrics-wise, what impresses me about “Please Come Home” is how a very desperate Charles gives his Gone Girl the option to come home “If not for Christmas, then by New Year’s Night.” Even if she doesn’t come home for Christmas, he will still take her back. PM to Charles – once she passed on Christmas, think I’d have to tell her to go find some blueballed biker to keep her cheating butt moving on down the highway. Then again, Christmas is a time of hope even in a blues song.
