Based on a very informal survey of my Buzzy friends and family, most folks when I asked if they make resolutions say that they do NOT. Keep in my mind that the majority of my Buzzy folks are in the 4th quarter of life so there is a certain been-there-done-that-ain’t-doing-it-anymore approach to life. Things like New Year’s resolutions just don’t make their list. And even if they say that they do make resolutions, I got responses like “Yes. In 2023 my resolution was to read more. So I turned on the TV’s closed caption.”
Turns out that I am onto something here about age and resolutions however. The couple minutes I spent on the Google machine asking how many Americans make resolutions, I found that approximately 60% of younger folks (18-34) do so and older folks less so (click here.) For a contrarian view of resolutions, as in eliminating people and things from your life via a “F–k it list” of resolutions (click here.)
I’ll leave you with Oscar’s view of making resolutions.
As for New Year’s songs, here is a nice tune from the Zombies when they were inducted into the R&R Hof in 2019. Then again the “Took a long time to come” may or may not have been a veiled message to the HoF voters who waited quite awhile before voting them in.
