When I asked a recent visitor to Buzzy’s Country Store where he was from, he informed me Coloma, Michigan which made me followup to ask where in Michigan that was. He then held up 4 fingers and while pointing to a spot below his index finger informed me “Michigan looks like this and we are in the southwest corner – down here.”
I laughed and told him how I always use a similar visual in describing Maryland as looking like a pistol and that I live on its trigger.
Later I took a closer look at a map of Michigan and noted that it resembles Maryland with a body of water separating it into two distinct parts:
Also I found some descriptions of Michigan’s lower peninsula as being in the shape of a mitten (click here.)
The following is from the Band’s “Last Waltz.” Sad to note that all of them, (except Garth shown very briefly @1:39 mark) did have somewhere to go as in outta here. Has one of my favorite lines “Out of 9 lives I’ve spent 7, how in the world am I gonna get to heaven?”
Very cold out there today, but a little Country Store way down on the tip of the trigger has something to warm you up. Unlike the dude in the song, you do have somewhere to go.
