Yesterday I mentioned the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and its famous mural. This is the icon you always see when shots of Waikiki Beach are shown as follows:
Note that Diamond Head, standing in the background on the other side of Waikiki Beach, may also be up there as THE most recognizable landmark. However, let the Hilton folks bask in their glory after they spent alot of money first constructing the murals in 1968 and then dropping another $4 million to redo them in 2013. (Note I say murals as in plural because there is one on each side of the Hotel tower.
Above is the ocean side view while here is the mountain side view on a Friday night when they do their fireworks show:
Interesting note about this Rainbow Mural is that it is made with tiles and therefore is actually a mosaic and not a painting.
Couple photos Pam took from our 2022 visit there with Ryan:
Music-wise I thought this would be an easy one because I would just lay the original Hawaii Five-0 theme song on you with it showing the Hilton Rainbow Mural. However, I was a little disappointed to learn that my memory failed me again because the mural does not appear in the original theme video (click here.) The new version of Hawaii Five-0 theme video (below) does feature it however.
Unfortunately though, something else caught my attention as to differences between the old and the new theme videos: there is no babe running on the beach nor hula dancer shaking her tail feather in the newer video. Seems we are carrying that PC thing a little too far aren’t we? Then again, the newer video does contain several more scenes with guns, so I’m not exactly sure what that says about our changing times. Know that I’d rather see the women.
