Getting Ready to Get Ready

With May a day or two away, I am now in full prep mode to be gone a couple weeks from now on a trip to Ireland. Just yesterday I was talking with a friend, who is also going on this trip, and our conversation involved how much prep has to be done getting ready for such a trip.

I told my friend that I knew exactly what she was referring to. What I didn’t tell her is that packing my bags for a trip might just be the easiest and simplest thing that I have to do to prepare for going away.

I did not go into it with my friend but when one has a business, getting away for a spell entails a whole other set of issues and concerns that need to be addressed. There are matters to think about such as store coverage, ensuring enough stock on hand (especially 10 ounce Buds,) having bait needed for the start of the fishing season, ensuring enough change for the register, collecting rents that are due, celebrating Buzzy birthdays and special occassions such as Mother’s Day etc.. The longer the trip, the more store prep that is needed.

Overall, it is not that difficult to do, and I have done it long enough to semi-have it down by now. And while it is still a bit of a worry for me, getting ready to get ready Store-wise, by comparison, makes my personal packing chores almost pleasurable.

Another pre-trip chore or task that I try to plot out is to post things daily here on the Buzzyblog for the days that I am going to be away. As pre-trip demands go, I really don’t mind this one too much because it makes me do something I rarely do – look ahead in anticipation of events and things coming up while I am away. It can be a little bit of a challenge, but I find myself kinda enjoying like I am Carnac the Magnificient or something. (If you don’t get the that Carnac reference click here.)

For an example of this, as I looked for something to post here on the Buzzyblog on 11 May, I learned Eric Burdon’s birthday is the 11th and that he will be turning 83. It made me think that perhaps he wasn’t ruined afterall as a poor boy in that infamous House.
