On a bit of a baseball sugar high today following the Orioles taking three out of four from the Yankees and currently sitting in first place in the AL East. As Chuck would say “Ain’t the beer cold!”
But it is a long season and even though the O’s dispatched the Yanks this series, as much as I hate to admit it, the Yankees do appear to be scarily good top to bottom. I am fairly sure that the O’s can and will hold their own with the Yankees offensively. Both of them will score lots of runs and win lots of games this season.
However, the Yankees’ starting pitching, middle relievers and their closers are all exceptional and appear to have the edge over the O’s in that department. There is that old baseball saying “Good pitching beats good hitting” that comes to mind. But one month in, it does look like its gonna be a fun season to watch the Orioles battle the Yanks for AL East bragging rights.
As for the Nationals, to date they have performed a little better than was expected of them coming into the season by playing .500 ball (14-15). They’ve got some good young players and things are starting to look a little more promising for them.
On the negative side for the Nats however, both of their competitors in the Division, the Phillies and the Braves, are off to good starts and the Nationals are already 6 games behind them. A good season for the Nats would be to continue playing around that .500 mark and avoid a fourth straight last place finish in the NL East.
With so many strawberries around, I am thinking of whipping up some strawberry daiquiris in Buzzy’s Country Store to baptize the new counter top on Kentucky Derby Day. (Countertop shown below in JW’s workshop.)
Horses and strawberries? Only one song to play here.
