7/11 – A Day Late And a N Short

Pop quiz for you – in 7 Eleven’s convenience store logo is the letter “n” capitalized or is it a lowercase n? (Don’t ponder this too much, as I have it doped out for you below.)

Here is how and why that pressing question came to cross my mind.

With yesterday being 7/11, I set out to do something here on the Buzzyblog related to how 7/11’s got their start. Well, it didn’t take me long to realize that I had done something previously on that very subject back in 2021 (click here.)

What tipped me off was reading about 7-11’s origins as “Tote’m Stores” and how some of those initial stores actually had totem poles in front of them. This is from Wiki’s description of how they began:

The company’s first outlets were in Dallas, named “Tote’m Stores” because customers toted away their purchases. Some stores featured “native” totem poles in front of the store. In 1946, the chains’ name was changed from “Tote’m” to “7-Eleven” to reflect the company’s new extended hours 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., sevens days per week.”

The notation about the totem poles being in front of some of their stores made me pause and say “I have covered this previously.”

As for the upper/lowercsase letter n, again there is this from Wiki:

That Non-aggressive N

Guess I should not admit that I had never noticed that their n was in lowercase. Hell, it looked like a Big N to me. The things that one learns as he gets older!

Too, it made me think that perhaps I should change BUZZY’S COUNTRY STORE to read BUZZY’S COUNTRY STORe. On second thought – no.

Joe Cocker ultimately made this his tune, but I think that if I was forced to do a Sophie’s Choice thingy, I would have to stick with Ringo’s understated version.

On 7 July, Ringo just celebrated 84 years of getting by with a little help from his friends. While having good friends may or may not ensure that you live any longer, they sure help to make what time you do spend here a little bit better as you continue to grow older with them. As Ringo would say “I’m gonna try with a little help from my friends.”
