Go ahead, say it “The Buzzyblog has officially gone to the dogs!” As Curley Joe was wont to say “I resemble that remark!”
However, when I saw this semi-political cartoon sent to me by Larry Yeatman the other day, it made me wonder “How did the 7-1 years’ dog thing ever get to be a thing?”
Turns out that the 7-1 dog year explanation is a bit of a myth and not really accurate. The following are excerpts from an article produced by the American Kennel Club (click here.)
As for the more accurate accounting of how fast a dog ages, the explanation is a little more involved:
Given the above rationale then, that would mean that a dog at two years of age is equal to a human’s 24 years lived. If the dog lives another say 8 years (x 5 human equivalency per year) the overall human equivalency would then be 64. In other words when I’m 64, my dog would only be 10.
And speaking of dog days, (ok, we weren’t really talking about days, but stay with me here while I take a literary detour to weave in a Buzzy-related anecdote) we are currently in what is called the dog days of summer.
When someone in Buzzy’s Country Store the other day complained of the heat, he was promptly informed “It is July dumbass, what do you expect?”
I only tell you this as a setup for the following tune. Initially, I thought of “When I’m 64” but I have just played that one the other day as a tribute to Ringo turning 84 on the 7th of July. (Guess that that means Ringo’s dog is 14 years old. Catholic school math, I hope I did that correctly!) So, check out this “hot” tune from Carlos and Rob:)
